Description

The film Wicked, based on the popular musical The Wizard of Oz, will be released in German cinemas in December 2024. The movie presents the first chapter of an immersive two-part story.

With a professional and well-cast ensemble, the soundtrack becomes a highlight in its own right. Among others, Grammy winner and multi-platinum singer Ariana Grande lends her voice to Glinda. The misunderstood Elphaba, played and sung by Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Broadway’s The Color Purple), harmonizes perfectly with the global star.

Additionally, Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh portrays Madame Morrible, the headmistress of Shiz University. Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Fellow Travelers) takes on the role of Fiyero, a mischievous and carefree prince; Tony nominee Ethan Slater (Broadway’s SpongeBob SquarePants, Fosse/Verdon) plays Boq, an altruistic Munchkin student; Marissa Bode makes her feature film debut as Nessarose, Elphaba’s beloved sister; and pop culture icon Jeff Goldblum stars as the legendary Wizard of Oz.

The film also features the characters Pfannee and ShenShen, Glinda’s devious companions, played by Emmy nominee Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Bronwyn James (Harlots). A new character, Miss Coddle, was created specifically for the film, portrayed by Tony nominee Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman). Four-time Emmy winner Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) also joins the cast as the voice of Dr. Dillamond.
